Methadone Addiction

Methadone addiction

Methadone addiction is a medication that is commonly used in the treatment of opioid addiction. However, like other opioids, methadone has the potential for abuse and addiction. Methadone addiction is a serious condition that can have a significant impact on a person’s physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.

Signs and symptoms of methadone addiction may include:

  • Using methadone in larger amounts or for longer than prescribed
  • Craving methadone
  • Spending a lot of time using or obtaining methadone
  • Neglecting responsibilities or activities in favour of using methadone
  • Continuing to use methadone despite negative consequences
  • Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when attempting to stop using methadone

If you or someone you know is struggling with methadone addiction, it is important to seek professional help. Treatment for methadone addiction typically involves a combination of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and behavioural therapy.

MAT involves the use of medications, such as buprenorphine or naltrexone, to help manage withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings. This can help individuals to taper off methadone use and eventually achieve abstinence.

CBT Therapy

Behavioural therapy, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) or motivational interviewing (MI), can help individuals to identify and address the underlying causes of addiction and develop coping skills to manage triggers and cravings.

In addition to professional treatment, support from loved ones and participation in support groups, such as Narcotics Anonymous (NA), can be helpful in the recovery process. It is important to remember that recovery from methadone addiction is possible with the right treatment and support.

Do be aware Methadone is highly addictive, and used to ween Heroin addicts from Heroin. I must say all the Heroin addicts I have ever spoken to said, Methadone is a worse drug than Heroin. They also say it gets right into your bones, and is extremely hard to get off. This is not a drug to experiment with, as you will get addicted before you know it.

Methadone Detox

When detoxing from Heroin in a rehab centre, it is different. It is used as a substitute for Heroin, and monitored correctly. Also you will have all the rehabilitation you need while in the residential rehab centre. This is totally different to taking it on the street. Plus no one knows the strength of Methadone on the streets, and in most cases where it has come from, and if it is even Methadone. It is illegal to have Methadone without a prescription. There is help out there for anyone struggling with addiction
